Healthier Shepherd’s Pie Recipe
Ingredients

- 2.5 pounds potatoes peeled and cubed
- 1/4 cup low-fat milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Filling:
- 2 pounds lean ground turkey
- 1 large onion diced
- 3 carrots diced
- 2 celery stalks diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 can reduced-sodium chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F
- Boil potatoes until tender, about 12 minutes.
- Meanwhile, brown turkey in large skillet, drain excess fat.
- Add vegetables (except peas) to turkey, cook until softened.
- Stir in broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings.
- Add peas, simmer until thickened.
- Mash potatoes with milk, butter, and seasonings.
- Transfer meat mixture to baking dish.
- Top with mashed potatoes, create peaks with fork.
- Bake 20 minutes until golden.
