Ingredients
  

For the Filling:

  • 2 pounds lean ground turkey
  • 1 onion finely diced
  • 1 carrot grated
  • 1 zucchini grated and squeezed dry
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can tomato sauce 15 oz
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste

For Serving:

  • 6 whole wheat hamburger buns
  • Sliced pickles optional
  • Sliced onions optional
  • Shredded lettuce optional

Instructions
 

  • Heat large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add ground turkey, break up while cooking until no longer pink.
  • Add onion, grated carrot, zucchini, and garlic. Cook 5 minutes.
  • Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and seasonings.
  • Simmer 10-15 minutes until thickened.
  • Toast buns if desired.
  • Pile meat mixture onto buns and add toppings.
